Revolut received its sixth banking license and applied for a seventh the very next day

Colombia’s financial regulator, the SFC, has granted Revolut an operating license—the final authorization needed for launch. Once launched, the company will operate in the country as a fully regulated bank, with customer deposits insured by the state-backed Fogafín.

Around 200,000 Colombians are already on the waiting list, and the launch is scheduled for 2027. Colombia becomes the sixth country where Revolut holds a banking license, joining the UK, France, Australia, Lithuania, and Mexico.

On September 16, the company applied for a banking license in Switzerland; the application is currently under review by FINMA. At present, its 1.3 million Swiss customers are served by the Lithuanian entity Revolut Bank UAB via a local representative office.

Obtaining its own license will unlock a full suite of services: Swiss IBANs, salary accounts, eBill, merchant acquiring, and deposit protection in compliance with local regulations. Future steps could include Pillar 3a pension accounts and integration with the TWINT payment app. To support this, Revolut has pledged to invest over CHF 150 million in the country over the next five years.
