Revolut receives its full UK banking licence

The Bank of England lifted restrictions on Revolut Bank UK Ltd, allowing the company to operate as a full bank. The process took five years from the 2021 application. Revolut can now hold deposits on its own balance sheet with FSCS protection and issue loans. It has 13 million UK customers and more than 70 million globally.

Why it matters

The full UK licence changes Revolut's status in its home market: it can now operate as a bank with its own balance sheet rather than only as an app layered on partners.

What investors should watch

The next test is whether Revolut can scale lending while keeping regulatory costs under control.
